I'm compiling a list for the coming year. What do you think of the list attached? Any you would add? Thanks in advance!

The name name you give your child can impact the rest of his or her life.

Psychology Today published a study that surveyed over 500 Human Resource managers and over 150 college admissions counselors at competitive admission universities. The results showed that a person’s first name was a large factor in determining whether or not a person made it past the initial screening process for hiring or admission. People with odd or unusual or exotic names were more likely to be rejected while people with certain names – which Psychology Today termed “power names” – were more likely to pass the initial screening. Here are the top ten “power names” as rated by Psychology Today.

For one thing, I'd look for a more reliable source. ;) Lots of mistakes in the article you linked. Cameryn, for one, isn't even a spelling IN the top 1000, so I seriously doubt it rose 30 places in the rankings (unless that was from, say, 1031 to 1001). LOL

Likewise, Juliana has NEVER been higher than 155 -- that's since 1881 when it first made the list, by the way -- Maggie is barely in the top 200 (and highly unlikely to jump nearly 100 spaces), Logan just made it into the top 20 (at 19 ... certainly not top ten), Julian is at 65, according to the most recent (2006) data, so even if it fell to 95, that would be 30 places, not the 17 sited and Tyler hasn't been in the top ten since 2000! Did this person even look up the accurate information (easily available), or simply go by some random baby magazine survey or something? LMBO

Ah, and the piece de resistance: Addison definitely did NOT jump a mere 57 spots from 2005-2006 ... try 79! It wasn't even in the top 100, and jumped to nearly the top 25! That, in and of itself, is astounding, and anyone familiar with baby naming trends is well aware of it (it was very unusual!), but this article is obviously far from accurate.

Unless, of course, this is all unfounded speculation meant to reflect the 2008 statistics -- in which case Addison couldn't possibly climb more than 27 spots, putting it at number one LOL -- but even if that's the case, it's exactly that. Completely unfounded and not based on the actual registered name data whatsoever. That won't be released until May of 2008, and even then, it will be the 2007 numbers, of course. ;)

If you want to get an accurate read on how certain names are fluctuating and which might be the newest up-and-comers, try the SSA's searchable database: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/OACT/babyn… These are the real numbers based on actual births registered, not random speculation or member searches and surveys (where most parenting magazines and "baby name" sites get their data).

Avery, for example, has been in the top 100 for the past four years, steadily rising at least 10 spots a year. It's safe to say this one will be well within the top 50 when the 2007 data comes out. Likewise, the above-mentioned Addison will likely close in on the top 10 very soon. If not in this year's stats, likely the next.

Sienna seems to be the new Sierra. While Sierra recently dropped out of the top 100 -- after more than a decade! -- in 2005, Sienna jumped from a mere 609 to a whopping 177 in the past two years! That one will break into the top 100 in the next two or three years.

Neveah -- that one's heaven MISSPELLED backwards LOL -- just made the top 1000 at 996 in 2006, so it's likely we'll see even more misspellings making the grade soon enough, unfortunately. Of course, I'm certain they'll still be followed up with the requisite "Heaven spelled backwards" explanation, regardless of how untrue that will obviously be. ;)

Other misspellings and recent creations that made the list for the first time in 2006 -- Lorelai (thank you, Gilmore Girls LOL), Jorja, Adyson, Braelyn, Zayden and Aidyn. Basically to say that any improperly-spelled character name, purposeful misspelling of an already trendy, overused name (or made-up variation of one) and even more misspellings of, for example, C and G names to make them fit the current K and J trends are all fairly predictable additions to the 2007 list.

Enjoy! ;)
Isabella, Gabriella.

I named my son Colton.

Ten years ago it was a very uncommon name in Canada. Now I hear it all over and now spelt different too.
